Well-Baked Memories, 2023

Clay Sculpture

(Artist Statement)

In a clean Pyrex baking pan sits a well-baked blueberry pie. Slices have been cut out revealing the found objects baked inside; Including but not limited to a gold necklace, kilt pin, commemorative Princess Dianna spoon and a spiked belly button ring. The pie is filled with glitter gel, clay blueberries and beads spilling out the sides. This all comes together to represent the idea of fleeting self-expression. An identifier and a muse for the people around you, expressing yourself through the politics of fashion, writhing against the machine and sticking it to the patriarchy. For feminine presenting people in alternative spaces, fashion is a lifeline that would be scary to lose. Dressing can fuel our self-confidence, making us feel comfortable moving through our daily lives. Here is a pie that represents the routine, ritual, and creative aspects of dressing ourselves, all put into one edible item. This makes it easy to consume but short-lived.

The Comfort of Me, 2023

Acrylic on canvas

30" x 40"

(Artist Statement)

The Comfort of Me is a mixed-media painting that represents your inner child. This painting is a reflection of our long-lasting interest in exploring the interplay between our personal belongings and our sense of self. The objects around us can hold so much meaning and become an extension of ourselves as if they are holding us together.
